Educational Programs
As part of the efforts of the Memorial Site Hartheim Castle to promote inclusion, a project group with the participation of representatives of the target group has been working on an educational offer for visitors with learning difficulties since 2018. In 2021, a concept for a tour through the memorial and the exhibition "Value of Life" in Leichte Sprache (easy-to-understand language) was completed. An important principle was that visitors should be able to visit “at eye level”, which promotes interaction, self-empowerment and social participation. In order to achieve these goals, pedagogical (e.g. haptic and associative) materials were developed that allow communication on different levels, including non-verbal levels, and encourage active participation by visitors, creativity and a complex examination of the place and its themes.
The tour can be booked for a duration of 2, 3 or 4 hours. In the future it should also be available for other people who have problems with regular language, e.g. people with a migration background. In addition to the tour through the Memorial Site, an offer for the preparation and follow-up of the visit to Hartheim should also be developed.
