Exhibition 'Value of Life'

Diesen Artikel drucken

The focus of the 'Wert des Lebens' (Value of Life) exhibition is how society deals with people who do not correspond to the expectations and ideals of the majority. The period of time in question extends from the Enlightenment to the present.

The topics range from categorising people as economically 'useful' and 'useless' at the onset of the industrial age to the current demands for equal rights for disabled people in society.

The murder of disabled people as 'life unworthy of life' under National Socialism represents the negative extreme of this development and a focus for contemplation, since Hartheim Castle was one of the six euthanasia centres of the Third Reich from 1940 to 1944 and therefore stands as a sombre reminder of what exclusion can lead to.
